Artist Information

Jennifer Houghtaling

Jennifer Houghtaling spent her youth in the remote wilderness of British Columbia. She studied ceramics at the New Brunswick Centre for Craft & Design in Fredericton from 2003-2006, later establishing Earth & Vine Studio in Vancouver BC. She developed and nurtured this business into a full-time career, eventually moving to Pugwash, Nova Scotia, with a full pottery studio in tow. In recent years, Jennifer has been experimenting with sculpture and mosaic art. Her work often speaks of current world issues and the simplicity and beauty of nature. She is a founding member of the Pugwash Farmers’ Market and a Councillor for the Municipality of Cumberland County.

Jennifer Houghtaling
“As a sculptor, I view my ideas and designs as a three-dimensional puzzled-together form. I see a landscape that inspires me and it becomes a mosaic broken apart by texture and separated into sections. The world seems a bit like this to me as well, all together a bit too overwhelming. I take it one piece at a time, trying to decipher the beautiful, even in the most tragic circumstances. Let us always see the good in everything.”
